Dry Cupping Therapy

What is dry cupping?

Dry cupping is a complementary healing modality rooted in traditional Chinese medicine. It is a safe treatment that helps resolve chronic muscle tightness and pain faster than massage therapy alone.

Cupping is exactly what it sounds like. The treatment involves the placement of "cups" on the body and the air inside the cups is removed using suction pump to create a vacuum that allows the cups to stay attached to the body.
Cupping pulls blood to a region to stimulate healing. It is effective at stretching tight fascia and muscles. Cupping helps the tissue develop new blood flow and stimulates the healing process. Cupping is generally painless.

Skin reaction after cupping

Side effects of cupping will usually leave temporary circular marks on the skin. Not all Cupping techniques create marks. The cupping marks are harmless, painless, and nothing to worry about. Those marks are created from the release of inflammation, congestion, toxins and stagnation in the deep and superficial layers of the body’s tissues and skin layers. The process of lifting the tissue creates space for the healthy rush of new blood and oxygen flow to areas that were once compressed, tight and stagnate. The colour of the marks fade over time. They may appear almost immediately and can last up to three weeks. But they usually disappear within a week.

The different colours of the marks also determines the seriousness of the symptoms. They range from a deep dark purple to a red and in some cases nothing at all. The darker the marks means that congested blood and toxins are present in that area. Injury and pain can also contribute to darker circles. A very healthy individual may even have no red marks at all.
